Hendrik- Shop Foreman

I’ve been turning wrenches since I was a kid—started with bikes and snowmobiles around 10 or 12, then worked my way up through dealerships. Diesel stood out because no one else really touched it, and I love a challenge.

Being part of S&M Diesel since day one means a lot. We’ve built something special here—tight team, diesel-only focus, and a reputation for getting it right the first time. It’s not just another shop; it’s a crew that feels like family.

I’m always learning—taking courses, reading up on the latest diesel tech, and working toward ASE certification. The systems are getting more complex, and I want to stay ahead of it.

Favorite truck to work on? Dodge—more room, easier access. Outside of work, I’m into camping, quadding, fires with friends, and wrenching on my ’72 Chevelle. Big block, turbo, six-speed swap coming soon.

JAKE- Lead hand

I first got into mechanics because I always wanted fast diesel trucks. I got the horsepower itch and broke allot of trucks.. young and dumb. My stepfather was always helping and teaching me but got tired of fixing them all the time, so to teach me, I had to learn to build them myself, with his help along the way.

I started at S&M Iin2019, and received my journeyman in 2022.

I enjoy pushing the limits on my own
diesels and building big horsepower trucks for others and always finding better ways to improve the industry.

Austin- Journeyman Technician

I got into mechanics when I was young. My father was a mechanic and I loved being in the shop getting dirty fixin shit. I enjoy starting a new project, tearing down and finding out how things work.

I started at S&M in 2021 and I received my Journeyman in 2023.

My hobbies are fixing old motorcycles, and finding new projects to get running, camping, and riding my collection of bikes.

My favorite thing about mechanics is starting a long project and getting to learn something new. building engines is my favorite job and maybe webastos

Nathaniel-Journeyman Technician

I started pulling wrenches in 2011 I believe, I don’t really have a favorite thing about being a mechanic. just more so doing it cause its something that I think I’m good at lmao

I received my journeyman auto in 2018 but had all my hours by 2015 just to busy to submit them till 2018. I received my journeyman HD was in 2023 , and started S&M in march of 2023.

I love to hang out with my son and play games with him.

hobbies- hunting, fishing, camping.

Carmyn- Service/Parts Advisor

I have lived all around the world growing up and have seen some pretty cool places that made my childhood interesting, but Red Deer has always been home base. I have been working in and out of the trades for 20 years,  from service advising to pipelining and back to parts and service.

I love having the challenges of learning the aftermarket diesel performance world. Always learning from researching and online courses. Coming to work is always a different day, not only with continuous learning , but the wild staff, many laughs and good times.

I had a son in 2020 that takes up most of my time, with going on adventures , camping , quadding, sports and him learning how to ride his dirt bike and watching him grow. For me being around family and friends , whatever it is we may be doing, is my version of living our best life.

Megan- Apprentice Technician

I am a third year apprentice at S&M, started in 2022. I started out wanting to just be able to fix my mustang without having to overly rely on anyone. I went to my first year automotive for fun, and so I could learn more about my car. When I got back from school I fell in love with a Duramax that had no engine in it, that truck is what really sparked my interest in diesels. I got a little in over my head as a first year apprentice, however it paid off and I daily it everyday now. I enjoy the learning aspect of mechanics, there is always something new to learn every single day, whether its a new job on the schedule or if my co-workers have a better way of doing a repair, I am always wanting to learn. In the future, my goal is to become a journeymen technician, own a house, and drive a jacked up, blacked out, L5P Duramax to work everyday while keeping my first diesel truck forever.

  • Shalina- Owner

I Was always wanting to help my dad work on trucks when I was young. When I got older, I was always trying to fix my own vehicle, or get in on the repairs
if it was over my head. My passion was always old trucks and jacking them up.
As I got older my love for jacked up trucks never changed but the diesel world also became a passion.

Living in BC, I wanted to pursue a career as an automotive technician most of my life but unfortunately that was not possible as I was working 2 jobs, and I was a single mother to an amazing son.

I decided in 2006 to move back to Alberta where I was originally from, and I got my journeyman ticket in parts in 2010. I worked at dealership for years, while always still doing my own repairs and adding to my collection of old trucks.

I Started S&M Diesel in 2013 as I had felt I had reached a stall point in my career and wanted to further my knowledge and expand my career on a more direct diesel path. All I wanted was to have all my customers as friends and treat them as family and help people where I could. We have always continued to keep that mindset and with that have grown with amazing staff and amazing customers to support us. Our customers are everything to us, without them for support and to have as friends, we wouldn't be where we are today

Hobbies- well I’m always working but when I’m not, camping, yard work and
spending time with my dogs and family.

    • Keltie-Office Personnel

My name is Keltie.  I have been doing data entry for S&M Diesel for coming up 10 years now.

The opportunity to work for S&M Diesel was presented to me by my bestie, she was delivering parts at the time. Shalina had stressed to her how she could really use a hand with data entry.  This is when I became a member of the S&M family in the old location. Making the move with them to their new, bigger and better location.  I have enjoyed working with this great group of people who truly make it feel like a family environment; watching the company grow and become the best diesel shop around.

When I am not working you can usually find me hanging out with my husband Scott of 39yrs or with one if not all of my
      grandkids.  I enjoy camping, quadding,
kayaking, biking and most of all swimming. Scott & I also enjoying taking road trips every now and then as well.

S&M Diesel has been a great place to work.  They have been very accommodating when it has come to me taking time for my health or just another road trip.  I couldn’t imagine working anywhere else!
